Durham trip

Hawick and Wilton Cricket club recently had a big day out for its under 15s team and parents. This was a trip to Chester le Street to watch the 20/20 game between Durham and Nottinghamshire
To get the day off to a good start a game had been arranged with Ponteland under 15s . The ground and facilities were excellent with our boys being green with envy at the practice facilities.
In the game Ponteland batted first and ran up 114. A good score to chase . Ben Harrison, their star player got them off to a good start scoring 24 before being well caught by Pierce Solley from the bowling of Nathan McNally. McNally bowled well with intelligent use of pace and spin to end up with analysis of 3 for 21 from 3 overs . His cause was greatly helped by 2 outstanding catches by Corrie Wilson . The senior first eleven could take note of what serious fielding practice can achieve. Corrie Wilson also took two wickets in his bowling spell as did Gareth Renwick whilst Declan Solley got the other one
Hawick started off not too well with Ewan Hair being out for a duck . McNally played well and looked to be having a major say in the game when he and Declan Solley got stuck into the Ponteland attack. With the rules as they are Declan had to retire at 26. Unfortunately the rest of the team could not muster enough runs and we lost out by 31 runs.
From Ponteland we set off for Chester le Street and the big game. Our lads were announced to the large Sunday crowd and formed a guard of honour for the Teams coming on to the field. After the game a number of the Durham Team made themselves available and this was also great for the boys to meet Test stars like Liam Plunckett and be photographed with them. The weather was stunning and we all had an absolutely super day. We feel the team had a good day and certainly the seniors enjoyed every moment.
Thanks are due to the organisers and also the Durham County Cricket Club for giving us a day to remember.
