Hawick and Wilton Prize Night & Dinner 2010

Hawick and Wilton brought down the curtain in some style on our 150th season at Buccleuch Park, and held their annual dinner on Saturday 25th September.

Doug Welsh welcomed the crowd of players, wags, family and friends numbering around 60, and introduced the speakers for the night.

After an excellent grace and meal supplied by Lindsay Grieve (Butcher), the first speech was made by Ken Reilly - who spoke on coaching and his views on cricket in general and certain cricketers in particular!!!! Ken (who was representing our sponsor Johnstons of Elgin) then presented our new 1st XI Caps to all the players who had played this season-it was good to see 16 of the 19 players in attendance.

Allan Moffat (Capt)  Ken Reilly  Craig Macdougall (Vice Capt)

The next speaker was Bruce Hughes, who entertained the crowd with the links between football and cricket and sport in general including his brief cricketing exploits which included being beaten by a team of 10 year olds!! And he went on to speak of the importance of coaching and supporting clubs in the community. Declan for one will not forget the speech quickly!!

Our final speaker was Stuart McKay, secretary of the Border League and Melrose CC. fame. Stuart spoke informatively on the pressures faced by local clubs and the league going forward, and the vital role of a hard working committee and club members who keep all our clubs going. He noted the importance of youth development and keeping fresh blood moving through the club set ups and encouraged all in attendance to do what they can to be more involved in club life and organisation.
