Hawick & Wilton 290 for 4

Peebles County 124 all out

Hawick & Wilton win by 166 runs

A century from 18-year-old Evan Alexander helped Hawick secure back to back victories after a comfortable win over Border rivals Peebles County on Saturday.

Bruce Mactaggart scored a career best 96 with Pierce Solley adding an unbeaten 52 before 15-year-old Justin Tait grabbed three wickets to seal the 20 points and take Hawick up to fourth in the league table.

The Teries chose to bat first and early boundaries from Stuart Hair got the hosts off to an electric start before he was bowled by Hawick youngster Harris Brogan for 18. With Peebles struggling for players, Brogan stepped in for the visitors and picked up an important wicket.

However, from this point on Hawick controlled the match with Mactaggart and Alexander stealing the show with their excellent hitting.

The pair put on a 185-run partnership with some ruthless strikes as Hawick made their highest total of the season. Both batsmen brought up their 50’s before drinks at 20 overs and accelerated in the second half of the innings finding he boundary regularly. The duo approached their tons, with Alexander creeping through the 90’s before a flick off his legs on 97 raced to the boundary and brought up his 100.

Once he was caught for 101 from 88 balls, Mactaggart looked to also reach three figures but fell agonisingly short when he was caught by the wicketkeeper for a brilliant 96.

Solley brought up his half century with a huge six in the final over as Hawick set their visitors 291 for victory.

Ryan Johnston then set the tempo with the ball as he forced an early wicket with Phil Mactaggart the composed man taking the catch at cover.

Sykes provided resistance for the visitors with a hard hitting 28 before Gareth Welsh had him caught for the first of his two wickets.

Morgan Tait was given another opportunity with ball in hand and he again provided the goods, taking 2 for 18 off his six overs, including the key wicket of dangerman Pete Caddick (35) who has 174 league runs so far this season.

Stuart Hair got in on the act as he dismissed two Peebles batsmen which now makes him Hawick’s leading marksman for the season so far with 10 wickets in all competitions.

The glory at the end belonged to Justin Tait. The youngster took three wickets in under two overs as he trapped the final batsman lbw to seal victory for Hawick in another excellent all-round team display.

The gin tasting event hosted by Lindsey Laing was also a huge success and it was great to see so many people at Buccleuch Park on a matchday and we hope to see you all back for more games in the future.
