Hawick & Wilton 189 for 9

Edinburgh Accies 2nd XI 166 all out

Hawick & Wilton win by 23 runs

A half century by Phil Mactaggart and four wickets for Gary Alexander helped keep Hawick & Wilton at the top of East League Division 4 with a 23 run victory over Edinburgh Accies.

The match got off to the worst possible start as key batsman Gary Alexander was caught off the first ball of the game.

However, a counter attacking 27 from Stuart Hair helped ease any nerves and put Hawick into a more comfortable position.

Ronan Alexander was joined at the crease by Phil Mactaggart as they built towards getting Hawick into a solid position until the former was bowled for 30.

Euan Hair then added 16 before Bruce Mactaggart hit a quick 23 with runs beginning to flow on a pitch with a quick outfield and short boundary.

Phil Mactaggart brought up his half century in some style as he smashed a straight six just after hitting a four in a vital knock of 57.

The Teries lost some late wickets through run outs as they tried to get as many runs as possible and ended with 189 from their 40 overs.

Then with the ball, Ryan Johnston struck in the first over to give Hawick the start they were looking for.

However, Accies hit back with a partnership that began to worry the Hawick fielders before Gary Alexander started to tear through the home side’s middle order with three wickets, all caught, Morgan Tait with the pick of the bunch.

Stuart Hair then got in on the act to remove the dangerous opening batsman for 32 but there was still plenty work for the visitors to do.

Kabir and Seghal looked to score quickly for Accies and put the match in the balance before Gary Alexander took his fourth wicket of the game to remove the latter for 22.

Neil Storey then got the key wicket of Kabir who scored 45 before Johnston claimed his second of the match.

Ronan Alexander then ensured there was to be no late fightback for the home side as he took two wickets with Stuart Hair getting his second catch of the game and Hawick wrapped up victory by 23 runs to remain at the top of the table.
