Drummond Trinity 214 all out

Hawick & Wilton 171 for 9

Drummond Trinity win by 43 runs

Four wickets from Lee Stewart and an unbeaten half century by Phil Mactaggart wasn’t enough to give Hawick victory against Drummond Trinity on Saturday.

Bowling first, Hawick got off to a steady start as opening bowlers Ryan Johnston and Ronan Alexander got a wicket apiece to leave the score on 23 for 2. Two wickets from Pierce Solley including the important one of dangerman Ashraf for 20 left the game in the balance at 88 for 4.

Lee Stewart grabbed four wickets during his eight over spell when bowling at a difficult time as the visitors tried to accelerate towards the end of the innings. A vital 40 from Imran and impressive 88 from opener Riaz guided the newly promoted side to a big total.

Stewart had a chance to collect a five-wicket haul but Gareth Welsh dropped the catch but remarkably ran the batsman out with a pinpoint throw for the second week in a row.

However, poor bowling and slack fielding from the hosts proved crucial as they were set 215 for victory.

In reply, Bruce Mactaggart got the home side off to a solid start as he struck several boundaries as he made 26 in an opening partnership of 44 alongside Alexander who added 11. The score soon became 56 for 3 but Phil Mactaggart and Solley steadied the ship and fought back into the game. Solley was caught for 29 but Evan Alexander continued where Solley left off and got Hawick within 90 runs of victory. But after making 18, a mix up with Mactaggart led to the young wicketkeeper unselfishly sacrificing his wicket despite it not being his fault as he was run out.

Mactaggart did his best to make up for his error and went on to play beautifully and make an unbeaten 50 but it was not enough for the Teries as they ended their innings 171 for 9.
