Murrayfield DAFS 97 all out

Hawick & Wilton 100 for 3

Hawick & Wilton win by 7 wickets

Ryan Johnston returned from injury in some style as he took five wickets to help Hawick to an impressive victory over Murrayfield DAFS on Saturday.

Phil Mactaggart blasted an unbeaten 50 from just 30 balls as the Teries raced to their target in only 18 overs.

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl, Hawick got off to a flyer as three wickets in two overs from Johnston left the visitors in all kind of trouble.

Stuart Hair then got in on the act as Evan Alexander took one of his four wicketkeeping dismissals with the score on 6 for 4, Hawick’s best start of the season.

Murrayfield captain Callum Barnton remained composed to steady the ship, playing some stylish shots in the process as he and A Malik took the score to 53 before Johnston came back to break the partnership.

Gary Alexander then bowled an excellent spell which included three important wickets including skipper Barnton for 49.

Johnston completed his five wicket haul before Hair wrapped things up leaving the visitors 97 all out.

In response, Hair and Gary Alexander chipped away at the total, taking the score to 18 before the former was bowled for 6.

Morgan Tait was then out, and things could have became nervy, but Mactaggart ensured the Teries had nothing to worry about.

He wasted no time hitting some crunching shots, whilst Alexander remained resilient at the other end to put Hawick in control.

Vice captain Mactaggart played some excellent shots over extra cover, as Hawick raced from 23 for 2 after 10 overs, to within touching distance of victory after 17 overs.

Alexander was caught by the wicketkeeper after making a solid 25 before Mactaggart brought up his second half century of the season.

Then Euan Hair smashed the winning runs to give Hawick arguably their most impressive win of the season.
