Hawick & Wilton
win by 33 runs
An impressive bowling and fielding performance got Hawick their
first victory of the season on Saturday at the third attempt.
Gareth Welsh was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets
whilst Stuart Hair top scored with the bat, scoring 30 runs.
Skipper Ronan Alexander won the toss and chose to bat, with him
and Gary Alexander making a solid start, something Hawick haven’t done in their
However, their hard work was soon undone with the score on 26
when Ronan and then Euan Hair fell in quick succession.
Stuart Hair built a steady partnership with Alexander senior to
get Hawick back on track. Alexander was soon caught by the wicketkeeper after
making 27 before Hair was run out for 30.
Phil Mactaggart and Evan Alexander both made good starts,
getting 12, but couldn’t kick on and make a big score.
Bruce Mactaggart then made 10, but Hawick were all out for 125.
It was a disappointing total, and should have been so much more, but the Teries
gave away some cheap wickets, and had a tough second half ahead of them.
However, Hawick’s opening bowlers Lee Stewart and Stuart Hair
came flying out the blocks and took the early wickets that were vital.
With Leith on 36 for 3, a wicket each for Gary and Ronan
Alexander made the score 52 for 5 to put Hawick in pole position.
But a counter attacking partnership from Poojari and Hasan took
the score to 90 for 5 meaning Hawick had plenty work to do.
However, Ronan Alexander bowled Poojari for 20 and then Welsh
wrapped the game up with an excellent spell of bowling that dismissed four of
the visitors batsmen to give the Teries an important victory.
