Hawick 155 all out

Gala 157 for 3

Gala win by 7 wickets

Half centuries from Jack Halls and Finlay Rutherford were enough for Championship Gala to overcome Division 3 Hawick in a friendly on Sunday.

The young Teries put a good account of themselves ahead of Saturdays league opener against Edinburgh Accies.

Batsmen got valued time in the middle and bowlers got overs under their belt which will prove vital before this weekends fixture.

After winning toss and choosing to bat, Ronan Alexander and Morgan Tait made a solid start not looking in any danger before the former edged the ball to slip for 8.

Tait made 13 as he looked comfortable opening the batting.

Twins Euan and Stuart Hair got their seasons off to a familiar start playing aggressive shots to get the scoreboard ticking. Euan top scored with 31 whilst Stuart added 24 before Phil Mactaggart notched 29.

Bruce Mactaggart made a quick-fire 22 before Declan Solley’s 9 helped Hawick to a respectable total of 155, with Dinesh Tharanga and Jack Halls the pick of the Gala bowlers taking 3 wickets each, whilst youngster Harris Rutherford took 2 impressive catches.

In reply Hawick let themselves down with their fielding early on as they dropped Halls thrice and were punished as he went on to score 50.

Finlay Rutherford was also dropped on his was to a half century but he batted well showing great technique and concentration.

Ryan Johnston found Hawick’s breakthrough when he bowled one of the visitors new overseas players N Giofre for 18.

Alexander grabbed the second wicket before Rory Anderson took the third as fellow overseas player Dan Fisher was caught by Tait.

Despite the defeat, Hawick got some valuable game time and there are definitely positives to take and improvements to make ahead of Saturdays league opener.
